I got accepted to the Japanese Exchange and Teaching Program (JET)! So this means that I'll be in Japan teaching English for at least the next year or so! Hooray! *Throws confetti, opens champagne* *straightens shirt* We now return you to the regularly scheduled homepage...
Age: An _official_ 21! Yikes! I'm legally responsible now! By the time I get back from Japan, I'll be an even more legal 22. Will miracles never cease?
Major: Comparative Literature, which is, of course, the best major ever... (_way_ better than a wimpy major like English!) Just kidding... Seriously, though, I do think my major an I are a perfect match and I'm glad I declared. And I hear those naysayers in the audience, "What are you going to do with it? What's the point?" blablabla. I will teach for a bit, and then enter Academia, win the Pulitzer Prize and retire rich. So there!
Minor:
Film Studies, if I have the electives to do it (Though this is not bloody
likely at this point in time. Film is ok, but is sure ticks me off
sometimes!.) Theory does tend
to make me laugh, though...My two favourite directors are Alfred
Hitchcock and Juzo Itami (a Japanese director who made the film,
"Tampopo"). And, of course, the illustrious Mike
Jittlov! (Although I suppose he's not exactly your "average film
person"...) Also, possbily, Marine Ecology. I can't make up my
mind... I love the two subjects; I think I'll go back and get a second
degree in Biology if I ever have the time... The upshot of all this
yammering about my minor is that I never officially declared anything,
so all the preceding commentary is slightly moot. *wink*
I'm always looking for a job, so please look at my resume! (I may have said this before, but what the hell...)
Extra curric's: The Illustrious Vice President and Anime Guru of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Society , Co-chair of 5-Con, the five college Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention, and a Student Academic Advisor (SAA). You know, all the fun stuff I'm working on when I am _not_ emailing everyone else...
Stupid Fact of the Year: (Or whatever time increment I'm working with...) Did you know...shopping malls are actually kind of boring after a while? (Credit Matt Groening with that one.)
Hometown: La Jolla, Ca. No, I am not a beach bunny, although Marine Ecology is one of my favourite subjects...I guess I'm a "true" Californian in that I've managed to sleep through several earthquakes. If you want, you can check out the La Jolla Homepage although I suspect their priorities there are messed up because they list the Chargers first and the Coffeehouses later. What gives? And the Symphony gone bankrupt??? Terrible...
Hobbies: Anime, Anime, Anime, Sleep, and Anime. Did I mention anime? *grin* Really, there is more than that... a typical inclusion of my hobbies is: reading, watching The X-Files, talking to all my long distance friends (and runnning up a huge phonebill thereby...), doing homework (ugh), listening to music, avoiding getting sick, generally hanging out with friends over coffee, and making strange and wonderful books, comics, and videos. For an explanation of some of these hobbies, visit my Anime Shrine .
My Role Models: Gloria Steinem, my father, Gates McFadden/Beverly Crusher (a leftover from my Star Trek days...), Dr. Dorothy Davies Johnson, M.D., and, of course, my Mom!
Stuff I Really Dislike: paper cuts, broccoli, weak coffee, bad dub jobs, people who tell me that "Hothead Paisan" isn't funny, whining, Right Wing Republicans, guys who insist that they _are_ feminists just because they do the dishes twice a week, not getting enough sleep, egomaniacs, and writing silly lists.
Stuff I Really Like: Let's face it--I'm a hopeless romantic. So therefore, I am much enamoured of silly sentimental poetry (the good kind), long walks on the beach, and roses. When I'm not feeling romantic, I like books, books, computers, friends, coffee, books, collecting useless stuff and sometimes waxing cynical. I also _Adore_ Mystery Science Theater 3000! (I even managed to write a paper on it in my paratext class...
Something kind of secret going on...
Here is a picture of my family...a silly picture...well, at least I think
so! My Mom hates it...;) I just might remove it if her protests get more
vocal... Not included in this picture, is the latest acquisition to our
family, Arnie! He is the world's cutest cocker spaniel!
And here is a picture of me and two of my best friends, Mary and Quanda.
This page was last modified on May 31, 1998, when I was
actually supposed to be doing work. But isn't that always the way?
